OTTAWA - Canada is one of the most appealing countries in the
world and is consistently rated among the top tourism destination;
scenes of infinite variety and beauty await the explorer in us
all. André Ouellet, President and Chief Executive Officer
of Canada Post, is proud to announce that a set of ten stamps
depicting some of Canadas most popular tourist attractions
will be issued on May 11, 2001. Two booklets will be available:
one with five U.S.A. rate (60-cents) stamps and one with five
international rate ($1.05) stamps.
"Canada boasts veritable paradise of spectacular and varied natural beauty," said Mr. Ouellet. "From majestic mountains to rugged coastlines and virgin forests, charming towns and world-class cities, this country is a feast for the eyes."
Designers Catharine Bradbury and Jennifer Hood of Bradbury Design, Regina, describe the stamp project as "a challenge to promote Canadian tourist attractions in an effective manner with far reaching appeal." Photographers involved in the project had to capture the essence of each attraction in single photo.
Stamps and First Day Covers will
be available at participating postal outlets, or by mail order
from the National Philatelic Centre. From Canada and the USA call
toll-free: 1-800-565-4362 and from other countries call: (902)

The WP&YR plans to have a dedication ceremony on July 28 in Whitehorse at the WP&YR-Whitehorse Depot. By having the ceremony in July, Canada Post Senior VP will be in attendance and Canada Post will create a special stamp cancellation for July 28.
The MacBride Museum in Whitehorse is also considering doing a special envelope canceled on May 11 and available between May 11 and July 28.
