Just
what is a railfan tour? It's a bunch of serious railroad fanatics
and oftentimes photography fanatics as well. Here they are in
Carcross at the start of their WP&YR railfan tour ready to
go the 65 miles to Skagway by steam train, but only after getting
a few photos of the train at the depot, going over the bridge,
etc. |
 |
A
staff consultation of what the railfans would like to see next... |
 |
Pennington,
an old section house along Lake Bennett, becomes another photo
opportunity. |
 |
Leaving
Pennington in fall splendor, we head to Bennett, our next stop. |
 |
These
railfans were quite good-natured over the weather. We had a bit
a snow actively falling as we traveled from Bennett to Fraser,
another stop and photo runby. |
 |
It's
been a long time since the WP&YR has had two operational
steam locomotives, so a double-header mixed train (simulated
freight and passenger coaches) was a must for the railfans. |
 |
The
double-header, coupled and ready to go, on what is looking to
be a great day. This extra train had to operate around the schedules
of the routine passenger trains of the day. |
 |
Photographers
and lucky tourists arrive at a good viewing spot to see the double-header
come through Rocky Point. |
 |
From
the Klondike Highway, these final photographs show the double-header
as it makes its way to Clifton. This is just past Rocky Point. |
 |
A
bit further on, we see the train continuing around several curves
on its way to Clifton. |
 |
Clifton,
almost. |
 |
Both
steamers at work as they approach Clifton. |
 |
Clifton!
And the double-header arrives at the siding just in time for
the scheduled Summit train to pass by on its way back to Skagway. |

meets diesel-electric at Clifton. |
