In
preparation for the July 29, 2000 Golden Spike Centennial in
Carcross which included a re-enactment of a steam meet, Engine
73 with four coaches of VIPs traveled from Skagway to Carcross
one day earlier. This was the first non-work train since 1982
over the rails with the exception of the Ton-of-Gold train in
1997 and the first steam train in who-knows-how-long, so it was
an event of great interest to many. Here Brendan Heney, the great
grand nephew of original contractor Michael J. Heney contemplates
re-enacting the driving in of the Golden Spike the following
day while watching a helicopter that followed this "Extra
73" for much of its journey. |

and Carcross. |

Almost
there! One of the mechanics looks out from "73" to
see the swing bridge of Carcross coming into view. |

Extra
73, passengers unloaded and turned on the wye, is about to call
it a day. |
 |
"T
minus 1" and counting. Tomorrow will be a busy day! |

After
arriving in Carcross and discharging the VIPs, the train turns
on the wye and approaches the swing bridge from Carcross to replenish
the water in its tender. |

Tomorrow
will see Lord Denman dressed in formal attire. Today he's enjoying
his day in casual clothing. |
